Held in an open-air venue with over 600 attendees, the inauguration demanded a balance of technical precision and artistic finesse. It was important to the team to utilize our skills to coordinate with each other but to also keep disruptions to a minimum so attendees can be present for the historic inauguration. The outdoor setting came with its own set of production hurdles, from unpredictable weather to the lack of reliable internet infrastructure. Yet, with our seasoned crew and meticulous pre-production, we rose to the challenge.
We designed a three-camera setup to maximize visual storytelling: a wide camera captured the grand scale of the event, a tight camera highlighted emotional moments like applause and key facial expressions, and a wireless roaming camera delivered dynamic shots of the speakers and audience. To ensure broadcast-level audio quality, we coordinated with an audio technician to capture both podium sound and ambient crowd response with clarity. Clear audio was critical, particularly for a political event with speeches and live performances. We used a combination of wireless lavalier microphones, shotgun mics, and a direct feed from the soundboard to ensure clean, balanced audio across all video feeds.
Challenges & Live Stream Production Environment
One of the most formidable challenges we encountered was the complete lack of on-site internet access. With livestreaming being a core deliverable, we moved swiftly to engineer a solution. We partnered with BitFrame Media to provide high-speed, on-site broadband using enterprise-level mobile routers. As a failsafe, we added a Starlink satellite internet system to guarantee consistent upload speeds. The dual-setup guaranteed that we could broadcast without disruption, a critical safeguard for such a high-profile event.
Even as the event program changed in real time, our team adapted on the fly, executing smooth transitions and dynamic shots to accommodate last-minute speaker additions, musical performances, and crowd interactions. We worked in tandem with city officials and Barbara Lee’s communications team to align messaging and timing with grace. Our team handled live camera switching, graphics overlays, and transitions in real-time using a portable video switcher and live production software.
We maintained communication with all camera operators via wireless headsets to stay nimble and respond to shifts in the program flow. Post-event, Techboogie delivered two customized highlight videos with heart-centered editing that preserved the emotional resonance of the day. One was designed for web use, rich with narrative and slower pacing to suit web viewing.
